Ikea hijacks photo tags on facebook

In a previous post I already expressed my admiration for the creativity and the innovation of Ikea in their ads. This time they also managed to blow our mind off with a very original Social media campaign. Where other companies are struggling to stand out with a generic social media campaign and spending a lot of money to make it spread, Ikea came up with an idea that makes it spread on itself.

The Idea is very simple and therefore even better:

The store manager of the new Malmo store Gordon Gustavsson created his profile on Facebook where he uploaded images of an Ikea showroom. The person that tagged his name on a product first, won the product. Needless to say that the viral effect of the campaign was immediate due to the fact that the images spread very quickly via the profile pages, newsfeeds and links of the persons tagged in the image.

I honestly think this is one of the best social media campaigns I’ve seen, together with the Burger King “unfriend” campaign, remember:
